What Is a Non-Stimulant Fat Burner?
A non-stimulant fat burner, also called a stim-free fat burner, is a type of fat burner that does not contain stimulants such as caffeine. Instead, they contain other ingredients such as cayenne pepper and green tea extract which can help to increase the rate of weight loss when dieting.
To expand on this further, the difference between stimulant fat burners and non-stimulant fat burners is that, as the name suggests, stimulant fat burners contain stimulants and non-stimulant fat burners don’t.
Stimulants increase the activity of the central nervous system and the body. The most common form of stimulant is caffeine – Something millions of people consume daily and if you’re reading this, you’re probably already familiar with most of the effects (and side effects) of consuming caffeine!
Stimulants are common in fat burners because they have been shown to speed up people’s metabolisms.
Some studies have found caffeine can increase people’s resting metabolic rate by 3-11%. This leads to more calories being burned.
Caffeine can also decrease appetite, which leads to fewer calories being consumed. As a result, stimulants like caffeine have been shown to aid weight loss.
However, stimulants aren’t suitable for everyone. Caffeine, for example, can cause a range of side effects including insomnia, heart palpitations, and anxiety.
Given these side effects, many people have looked for fat burners without stimulants and there is a range of non-stimulant fat burners on the market today.
Instead of stimulants, non-stimulant fat burners contain other ingredients and work differently to boost fat loss, as I’ll explain in the following sections.
What Ingredients Do Non-Stimulant Fat Burners Contain?
Non-stimulant fat burners contain a range of ingredients such as cayenne pepper, green tea extract, and conjugated linoleic acid which are believed to increase weight loss results. Unlike stimulant fat burners, non-stimulant fat burners do not contain stimulants such as caffeine.
To expand on this further, as I mentioned, non-stimulant fat burners don’t contain stimulants. Instead, they contain other ingredients which can help to maximize weight loss.
Although each product will contain different ingredients in different quantities, some common ingredients within non-stimulant fat burners include cayenne pepper, green tea extract, and conjugated linoleic acid.
Cayenne pepper can aid with weight loss. It does this by increasing your body temperature, in the same way that other spicy foods do.
As your body temperature increases, your body works to cool itself down and this process burns calories. This process of burning more calories leads to greater weight loss results.
Green tea extract is also common in non-stimulant fat burners. It works similarly to stimulants by speeding up your metabolism which leads to more calories being burned resulting in weight loss.
Green tea extract also contains catechins which help to regulate hormones associated with thermogenesis.
Thermogenesis is essentially how the body burns calories when digesting food and generating heat, so it plays an important role in how many calories a person burns each day. Green tea extract can help to maximize this process, potentially boosting fat loss results.
As with cayenne pepper and green tea extract, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is also common in non-stimulant fat burners. CLA is essentially a kind of fatty acid that’s found in meat and milk from cows and sheep.

Though the results are mixed, some studies have found that CLA can help people to lose weight and can help to change body mass composition by increasing muscle mass whilst reducing body fat.

However, there are a huge variety of products on the market and each of these will contain different ingredients and different doses of these ingredients.
Do Non-Stimulant Fat Burners Work?
Non-stimulant fat burners contain ingredients such as green tea extract which can promote weight loss. However, non-stimulant fat burners aren’t a substitute for a healthy diet or regularly exercising and it’s important to have realistic expectations about the results you may see from them.
When it comes to any kind of supplement, you want something that is going to work and give you the best results possible.
When looking at non-stimulant fat burners there is some evidence to suggest that they work.
